The Patriots beat the San Diego Chargers 21-12 in the AFC Championship game, and the Giants took down the Green Bay Packers 23-20 in overtime. With only 10 points scored in the first three quarters, 7 for Patriots and 3 for Giants, the fourth quarter came down to the wire. The Giants were down 14-10 with less than three minutes remaining in the game, David Tyree made a jumping one-handed catch, holding the football to his helmet while he fell to the ground. Then with 35 seconds to go in the game, Eli Manning found his receiver in the end zone for the game winning touchdown to win 17-14. Manning was named MVP after throwing for 255 yards and two touchdowns, with one interception. Michael Strahan then announced his retirement after the game.
