The Boston Celtics formed one of the best big threes in the 2007-08 season. During the offseason the Celtics traded for Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to pair with Paul Pierce. With the Celtics forming the big three they had their third most wins in franchise history going 66-16 for the season. The Celtics finished the season with the best record in the NBA, and took the number one seed in the Eastern Conference to make the playoffs for the first time in two years. New member Kevin Garnett won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year, and Danny Ainge was named the NBA Executive of the Year from forming the big three.
The Boston Celtics made their way to the NBA Finals and they were taking on their biggest rival, the Los Angeles Lakers. It had been 21 years since the last time they had played against each other in the finals. The Celtics took an early 2-0 series lead with a 108-102 victory in game two. Pierce led the Celtics with 28 points and went 4/4 on three-point shots. The Celtics closed the Lakers out in game six with a 131-92 victory. Garnett and Allen both scored 26 each, and Pierce was announced as the NBA’s Final MVP and helped the Celtics win their 15th championship.
