The 2009-2010 season was the 90th season of NFL history and it was also the 50th anniversary of the American Football League. The original eight members of the American Football League are the Boston Patriots, Buffalo Bills, Dallas Texans, Denver Broncos, Houston Oilers, Los Angeles Chargers, New York Titans, and the Oakland Raiders. During the season, the AFL teams matched up and they would wear special throwback jerseys like they used to wear and had AFL patch on the jerseys.
Super Bowl XLIV
On February 7, 2010, in Sun Life Stadium, the New Orleans Saints took on the Indianapolis Colts for Super Bowl XLIV. The Saints beat the Minnesota Vikings 31-28 in overtime in the NFC Championship game, and the Colts beat the New York Jets 30-17 in the AFC Championship game. At the start of the third, the Saints would take a chance and kick an onside kick and recover. The Saints would go on and score to take their first lead, but the Colts would answer back with their own touchdown. The Saints then scored 18 straight, which included the game-sealing pick-six. Saints would win 31-17 and Drew Brees was named Super Bowl MVP. Brees would throw for 288 yards and two touchdowns.
This is the first an only Super Bowl ring for the Saints. Made of solid yellow gold, 14k, it weighs 57 grams. Made by Tiffany and Co. this ring sells for well over 30k, but only a few have actually been sold. There is a larger diamond you may notice in the middle of the ring signifying the first Super Bowl win.
On the inside of the ring, you will be able to see musical notes. These are actually the notes to the song “as the saints go marching in”. A fun little addition to this beautiful piece.
