In the 2007-2008 season, the fans saw the New England Patriots finish the season 16-0 leading to Super Bowl XLII. The Patriots had one of the best teams to play the game. Tom Brady and the Patriots broke many records during the season which included; most passing touchdowns during the season (50), most passing yards (4,806), best passing rating during the season (117.2), most points scored by a team (589) and many more. Brady went on to win the MVP award for the season. And Bill Belichick won the Coach of the Year award.
Super Bowl XLII Game
February 3, 2008, fans saw one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history. The New England Patriots took on the New York Giant. The Patriots beat the San Diego Chargers 21-12 in the AFC Championship game, and the Giants took down the Green Bay Packers 23-20 in overtime. With only 10 points scored in the first three quarters, 7 Patriots and 3 Giants, the fourth quarter came down to the wire. The Giants were down 14-10 with less than three minutes remaining in the game. David Tyree made a jumping one-handed catch, holding the football to his helmet while he fell to the ground.
Then, with 35 seconds to go in the game, Eli Manning found his receiver in the end zone. This was the game-winning touchdown. Manning was named MVP after throwing for 255 yards and two touchdowns, with one interception. Michael Strahan then announced his retirement after the game.
This Super Bowl XLII ring is monochromatic and is made from entirely white gold and diamonds. You can see three Lombardi trophies on the face of the ring symbolizing the three victories of the franchise. Each trophy has one large diamond to accent it. On the face, you can all see the words “World Champions” etched into the white gold with the “NY” logo outlined in small diamonds.
On the left shank you can find the score of the game along with the logo of Super Bowl XLII, and the date. For the right shank is the surname of the player the ring was given to with the logo of the NFL and the words “Eleven Straight Wins on the Road.”
