The 1979-80 season was the 60th NFL season and was the 20th anniversary of the American Football League. Running back Earl Campbell of the Houston Oilers was named the league’s MVP. Campbell ran for 1,697 yards and had 19 rushing touchdowns. The San Diego Chargers and the Pittsburgh Steelers finished tied with the best record in the NFL going 12-4, but the Chargers were awarded the number one seed for the AFC. The Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles both finished 11-5, but the Cowboys took the number one seed.
Super Bowl 14 hosted the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Los Angeles Rams. The Steelers were looking to win back to back Super Bowls, after winning the year before. The Steelers defeated the Houston Oilers 27-13 in the AFC Championship game to move on. The Ram defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 9-0 in the NFC Championship game. The Rams went into halftime with a 13-10 lead, then had a 19-17 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Rams would collapse in the fourth and the Steelers scored 14 to win 31-19 and win their second straight Super Bowl. Terry Bradshaw was named Super Bowl MVP after throwing for 309 yards and two touchdowns.
